Aside from functionality like adding voice notes and photos, there isn’t a whole lot more to Google Keep. Of course, it all stays synced up with your Google account and it’s all accessible from a desktop browser, so you can access your lists no matter what the situation is.
You can create checklists and color-code your task lists if you want. It doesn’t have a ton of features tailored to that particular need, but its simplicity is perhaps its biggest strength - it is what you want it to be. It primarily serves as a quick and dirty note-taking app, but has some features that facilitate the need to maintain task lists. Part of the reason is because it’s from Google, but there’s a lot to like about the service. It’s a relatively new player in the task list arena, but Google Keep deserves a bit of recognition here. This is by no means a definitive list, but these are just some of the apps I’ve found that should be able to pick up the torch and keep on moving for any user who has suddenly found themselves scrambling for a replacement. Thus, I’ve set out to detail the top 5 best task list apps for Android. Now that it’s gone, though, it’s time to let go and find something else. Its easy-to-use list system and powerful calendar features kept it shining even if other areas of the service were lacking. While the app has already been met with stiff competition over the years, Astrid remained an irreplaceable tool for many folks.

Plus I already have my data in Google Tasks, so for the time being I like these solutions for Google Tasks.If you haven’t already heard the devastating news, long-standing task list app Astrid is dying after being bought out by the entrepreneurial folks at Yahoo. I can already imagine someone asking “Okay, but what about Google Keep?” I’m not opposed to Google Keep, but at this point I’ve found various third-party solutions that interoperate with Google Tasks and work well for me on Chrome and Android. Tasks works great for me, but if you have tons of different todo lists then swiping between those lists might get old. I only keep a few todo lists (Home, Work, Grocery, etc.), and to switch between lists you just swipe left or right.

I like the Tasks app for Android because it syncs with Google Tasks, has nice widgets, you can easily move tasks up and down, and you can indent tasks underneath each other.

Oh, and one last Chrome recommendation: if you don’t want *any* distractions on Chrome’s new tab page, consider installing Empty New Tab Page, which makes the Chrome new tab page completely blank.įor Android, I use an app called Tasks. That way, I get a nice little signal every time I open a tab: “Hey, remember that you’re supposed to be working on stuff, not goofing off.” Thanks to Scott Graham for writing this Chrome extension. It changes Chrome’s new tab page to be your todo list.
The solution is a great Chrome extension called New Tab to Tasks.
The result? I was wasting more time surfing than I wanted. – I also noticed that on the New Tab page of Chrome, seeing thumbnails of my most visited sites (Techmeme, Hacker News, Nuzzel, Google News, etc.) every time I opened a new tab inevitably led me to click over to those sites. You can get the Better Google Tasks extension from the Chrome Store. I like the extension so much that I donated some money to the author, Chris Wiegman. Just click a button in Chrome and you have instant access to all your todo items. – Better Google Tasks is a great Chrome extension. I use a couple different extensions for Chrome:
Fundamentally I use Google Tasks as the backend, but with extensions and apps that improve on the basic functionality in Google Tasks.
